The 5 key factors affecting the cost of your garden fence installation
Without a doubt, two of the most pivotal factors which will affect the cost of your project are firstly the amount of fencing that you’ll be replacing, and secondly the type of fencing you choose. However, as well as those, you’ll also have to think about a couple more too.
The number of panels you’ll need
The exact number of panels you’ll require will depend on the size of your garden, and the length and height of your fence. As a general rule, most garden fence panels tend to be six foot wide, so once you’ve measured the space then you should have a good idea of how many you’ll need.
The height of the new fence
Generally, garden fences range between four feet to six feet in height, but that’s not the be-all and end-all, as some fences can be higher or lower. Just make sure to bear in mind that the higher a fence is, the more expensive the project will be.
The quality of the materials involved
Cheaper materials naturally tend to translate into a lower final cost for the entire project, whereas premium products conversely mean that you’ll end up paying more. If you’re getting a professional to apply the finish on the other hand, you’ll need to factor their quoted price into the cost of your overall installation.
How much does it cost to replace a garden fence panel?
If you’re not planning on performing an entire garden fence installation, and you’re just looking at replacing a few individual garden fencing panels, then you’ll be glad to hear that it’s naturally going to be a much easier (and cheaper) job. However, the overall cost is then going to be a lot more dependent on the quality and style of the individual panels themselves.
Generally, wooden panels are the cheapest, including weaver timber picket and waney edge fence panels. If your fence panels are solid metal or Venetian on the other hand, you’re going to have to budget a bit more for them.
Lap panels are the cheapest type of wooden fence panel, consisting of overlapping horizontal slats. These tend to cost about £20 each, and are notable for the ease with which they can be installed.
Close board fencing are vertical overlapping boards that are reinforced by horizontal rails. These are slightly more durable than lap panels, but just as easy to fit and replace. Expect to pay about £30 for each panel.
Lattice panel fencing encompasses an array of styles and designs. Now, they’re a bit pricier than standard panels, but there’s a lot of wiggle room in that, as the price in question is heavily influenced by how intricately they’re designed, and the quality of the material they use. At around £150 per panel, it’s safe to say that lattice panel fencing can be regarded as being at the premium end of the market.
Size also plays a role. As a general rule, here’s what you can expect different sizes to cost:
4ft garden fence panel – £15 to £100
5ft garden fence panel – £20 to £120
6ft garden fence panel – £20 to £140
